Where It All Began: The Original Vintage-Spec Jazzmaster Set
Before boutique pickups were a “thing,” there was a problem: nobody was making decent replacements for the Jazzmaster. I’ve been playing offsets for a long time, and back then, if you wanted a better tone, you had to roll up your sleeves and build it yourself.
This set is the foundation of everything I do. It’s a direct descendant of those early experiments, meticulously refined and based on the exact specs of the vintage Jazzmasters in my own personal collection.
The Sound of Experience
If you’re tired of “Jazzmaster” pickups that are just Strat coils in a bigger box, these are for you. I’ve stayed true to the wide, flat coil geometry that gives the Jazzmaster its unique voice—that perfect balance of punchy lows, complex mids, and a top-end that sparkles without being piercing.
By using Alnico 5 magnets and Plain Enamel 42AWG wire, I’ve captured the “lived-in” feel of a 60s original. They are touch-sensitive, resonant, and have just enough output to drive a tube amp while maintaining that classic offset “breathiness.”
Calibrated for the Modern Player
While the soul is vintage, the balance is perfected. I’ve wound these to sit exactly where a great set should:
-
Neck (8.3K): Thick, woody, and articulate—perfect for everything from smoky jazz to ambient shoegaze textures.
-
Bridge (8.7K): Just enough extra “meat” to ensure your lead lines cut through without losing the chime.
Whether you’re restoring a vintage gem or giving a modern reissue the soul it’s currently missing, this set brings the authentic, historical character that only a player-designed pickup can offer.
