60’s Stratocaster

As many of my customers already know, I’ve long been a devotee of pre-CBS Fender pickups. Since I began winding pickups back in 2011, my focus has been simple: accuracy. Each set is meticulously crafted to capture the sound and feel of the original examples from my own vintage collection, as well as those I’ve been fortunate enough to play and study over the years.

Every pickup is hand-wound using a scatter-wound technique to true vintage specifications. I use 42 AWG Heavy Formvar wire, carefully cloned and colour-matched to original pre-CBS wire, paired with vintage-correct 0.187″ Alnico V magnets that are bevelled in-house.

The flatwork is punched rather than laser-cut for period accuracy, with bobbins featuring rounded edges and finished in nitrocellulose lacquer—just as they were in the early days. Output is balanced for a classic response, with the neck measuring 5.8kΩ, the middle 6kΩ, and the bridge 6.4kΩ.

Each set is wax-potted using a traditional blend of Black Bee and paraffin wax to minimise microphonic feedback while preserving openness and touch sensitivity. Cloth-covered hook-up wire is used throughout, and every set is supplied complete with covers and mounting screws.
