When the Precision Bass moved away from the original Tele-style single coil in ’57, it didn’t just lose the hum—it found its soul. Our ’58 Split Coil is a tribute to that golden era of low-end, capturing the transition from the early experiments to the definitive P Bass growl.
This isn’t a mass-produced clone. It’s a precision-engineered humbucker based on the slightly later ’58 design. We’ve stayed true to the blueprints, using a flat profile and hand-bevelled Alnico V magnets to deliver a performance that feels as authentic as it sounds.
The Tone: Muscular & Controlled
Compared to its single-coil ancestors, the ’58 Split Coil is a different beast entirely. By scatter-winding 42AWG plain enamel wire by hand across two opposing coils, we’ve created a pickup that is whisper-quiet but loud in character.
