Where It All Began
I’ve been playing Jazzmasters for a long time. Back when decent replacement pickups weren’t really a thing, I did what any obsessed guitarist would do — I started making my own. This set is the result of years of tweaking, chasing tones, and living with real vintage Jazzmasters day in, day out.
The Sound
These pickups are based directly on my own vintage Jazzmasters, built to capture that wide, open, slightly unruly character that makes them so addictive. They’re wound with 42 AWG Heavy Formvar wire and loaded with Alnico 5 magnets.
Fender only used Heavy Formvar for a short window after the CBS takeover — supposedly to clear out old stock before switching fully to plain enamel. Whatever the reason, pickups from this era always had something extra going on: more depth, more shimmer, more attitude. That’s precisely what these deliver.
