Why UK-Made Pickup Parts Change Everything

I’m Marc, and I run Mojo Pickups. I’ve spent years obsessing over the tiny details that turn a good guitar pickup into a great one. Early on, I realised something crucial: if I wanted to build the best guitar pickups possible, I couldn’t rely on off-the-shelf parts shipped in from halfway around the world.

That is why I started having my own pickup parts manufactured here in the UK. It gives me tighter quality control, more accurate vintage specifications, and a better end result for players who genuinely care about tone.

Obsessive Quality Control and Oversight

When parts are made a few hours away instead of several time zones away, there is no room for “near enough”. I work directly with the people machining and casting my components, which gives me a level of oversight that mass-produced imports simply cannot match.

If a batch is not right, it does not make the cut. It’s as simple as that.

Hyper-Local 3D Printing in the Mojo Workshop

For selected components, I 3D print parts in-house at the Mojo workshop. To keep things as local as possible, I use filament produced only a few miles away. This provides total control over the manufacturing process and ensures consistency from one build to the next.

It also means that even the most modern elements of the pickup still have a local, British foundation.

Vintage-Correct, Not Just “Vintage-Style”

Many pickup parts are sold as “vintage-style”, but that often involves compromise. Because I control how my components are made here in the UK, I can focus on vintage-correct materials, dimensions, and specifications.

That matters because great tone isn’t just about how a part looks; it’s about how it performs under the strings.

Common-Sense Sustainability

Shipping magnets, nickel covers, and components across oceans adds unnecessary miles to the production cycle. By sourcing UK-made parts and producing selected components in-house, Mojo Pickups keeps its carbon footprint lower and its production leaner.

It is a more sensible, ethical way to build a premium product.

Supporting British Craft and Engineering

I’m not interested in waving the flag for the sake of it. However, the UK still possesses exceptional engineering and manufacturing talent. I would much rather support businesses that care about craft, precision, and consistency than chase the cheapest possible offshore option.

When you buy a Mojo pickup, you support a network of British makers who value quality over shortcuts.

“I could buy cheaper from elsewhere. I could pad the margins and call it a day. But I believe in quality, and I believe that by keeping things local, I’ve created some of the finest, most authentic vintage parts available anywhere in the world.” — Marc, Mojo Pickups
