Phase II Style Pickups

My take on the classic Univox Phase II pickup — a distinctive design from the golden era of guitar tone, later made famous by Kurt Cobain on In Utero.

These are single-coil pickups in a humbucker / PAF-sized format, making them a simple drop-in for guitars routed for standard humbuckers. You get the clarity, bite and raw character of a true single coil, while keeping the familiar humbucker footprint.

Built using UK-made parts, with covers available in nickel, aged nickel, or black to suit anything from clean builds to well-worn workhorses.

Each pickup is wound with 42 AWG wire to around 6–7kΩ, staying close to the output and feel of the originals — bright, articulate and full of vintage character.

Supplied with mounting screws and springs, ready to install.
